About Our Clinicians
Dr. Alexis Decosimo
I am an art therapist and licensed clinical mental health counselor. My style of work is to focus on strengths, empowerment, coping skills, and problem solving. While I am trained in a diversity of therapeutic methodologies, my primary focus is to individualize my approach for each client through a trauma informed sense. I have worked with a wide range of populations, including at-risk adolescents, children, people experiencing homelessness, families, adults, trauma survivors, and active duty and retired military. I have also worked and lived in a diversity of places, including East, South, and West Africa, India, Eastern Europe, Cherokee, Caribbean, Latin America, and Appalachia.
As an art therapist, I believe that artistic expression bypasses the limitations of language and opens a door to self discovery and realization. I understand that not all people are comfortable with art, so I do not force it in my sessions, but I do always have art materials by my side. For those who are open to art, I encourage clients to explore past the confines of what we have been taught is art. I believe art can take all forms from a simple scribble to a landscape to just playing with clay.
Asheville
If you live in or around Asheville, Our office is in Candler 10 minutes from downtown Asheville. We work with all age groups from children ( 5+) to older adults.
Tele-Counseling
Depending on the clinician’s licensure, we can provide tele-counseling services to individuals in NC, SC, and FL.
Costs
